How to Create a New Casting Call on Casting Crane

Creating a new casting call:

  • Sign into CC
  • From the dashboard, click “Add New” button

Adding questions to the casting form:

  • The casting call template includes a few preset questions (Name, email, etc.)
  • Using the options on the left-hand side, you can add questions that are specific to the current project
  • Click the type of question you want and it will create a new question at the bottom of the form
  • Write the question in the “Question Text” box
  • Add any additional instructions/examples in the box below
  • If the question is mandatory for the project, click “required”
  • If the question is for internal purposes only, click “Internal Only”
  • If the question is something that you need for background (I.E ACTRA Status, acting experience) but is not necessary for client to see, click “Hidden on Deck”
  • Click “Create Question”
  • Hover over the question & move it to where you want it on the form
    • A smart way to organize your casting call is:
      • Identity, contact info, location
      • Questions specific to the casting call
      • Photos & videos
      • Background information/questions that are on all forms

Identifying what type of question you should choose:

  • Single Line Text
    • Used when you need limited information (I.E. name of a family member, location, etc)
  • Paragraph Text
    • Used for multiple sentence answers
    • Always click “Large” field size
  • Multiple Choice
    • Used when you want applicants to be able to sort by the answer to that question (I.E. what language people speak, what role they’re applying for, if they meet the specs)
    • Used also for Yes/No questions
  • Drop Down
    • Used for long lists of options
  • Checkbox
    • Used when people need to choose multiple options
  • Likert Scale
    • Used for questions where you need to gauge people’s agreement, frequency, importance, or likelihood
  • Must Agree
    • Used only for legal points
  • City
    • Used for asking for City
  • States/Province
    • Used when casting in multiple cities in Can/USA only
  • Industry
    • Used you need people’s professional industry
    • TIP: Follow this question with a Single Line Text requesting the applicant’s job title
  • Photo Upload
    • Used to collect photos
  • Secure Upload
    • Used when collecting sensitive data (AKA passport photos, etc)
    • TIP: Most people feel more comfortable doing over email
  • Video Upload
    • Used to collect videos
  • Name
    • Used for collecting the applicant’s name
    • This option is already on the form
    • The name input into this option shows up at the top of the form when viewed from the deck
  • Email
    • Used for collecting applicant’s email
    •  This option is already on the form
    • The email input into this option shows up at the top of the form when viewed from the deck
    • TIP: Follow the email input with a Single Line Text labeled “Please re-enter your email address” in case people make a mistake the first time
  • Telephone
    • Used for collecting applicant’s phone number
    • The number input into this option shows up at the top of the form when viewed from the deck
  • URL
    • Used when collecting URL’s (I.E. website links, FB links, etc)
  • Video URL
    • Used when collecting YouTube/Vimeo links 
    • This option shows the video preview so it’s important to not mix it up with the URL option
  • Date
    • Used when asking for a specific date something happened on
    • Or used fr Today's date
  • Age (DOB)
    • Used for collecting applicant’s birthday
    • The date input into this option shows up at the top of the form as their age when viewed from the deck
  • Height
    • Used when collecting applicant’s heights
  • Number
    • Used when asking for a specific number
  • Just Text
    • Used at the top of the form as the casting call info/instructions
  • Section
    • Used as a title card if you want to break up the casting call
    • This can be helpful when casting multiple roles on the same form
  • Signature
    • Used to collect an E-signature

Customized settings

If you want to hide "Powered by Casting Crane"

  • Click on “Customize”
  • Scroll halfway down page
  • Click “Hide ‘Powered by Casting Crane’”
  • Scroll to bottom of page
  • Click “Save Customizations”

Going live

When you casting call is ready to be released:

  • Click “settings”
  • Click “Call Status” on right-hand side 
  • Click “Open This Casting Call (Make Public)”
